We are pleased to welcome you to the UChicago community. Our diverse community is made up of faculty, staff, academic employees, undergraduate, graduate and professional students, as well as the University of Chicago Medical Center and its staff members.
Several entities provide support to the different parts of our workforce. While everyone is invited to explore and use the resources provided on this website, the primary audience is newly hired staff. Some of the information on this website may not be relevant to faculty, student employees, University of Chicago Medicine staff members or academic staff members. Academic employees are encouraged to visit the Human Resource Services webpage for academic employees for information tailored to them.
Getting to Know UChicago is the University's 12-month process to help newly hired staff members become familiar with the campus community. The goal of the program is to provide the support needed for staff members to successfully adjust to their new surroundings so that they can quickly become productive, contributing members of the organization. Joining a large, world-renowned research institution such as the University of Chicago can be an intimidating and challenging experience, but it is also a highly rewarding one. During your first few weeks, there will be many forms to fill out, colleagues to meet, and a new environment to explore. Getting to Know UChicago was designed to make this process easier for you.
This website is the primary communication vehicle for Getting to Know UChicago. Use the navigation links on the left to identify important action items for your first year of employment. We encourage you to bookmark the site and check back often during your first 12 - 16 months on the job. The resources found on this site were specifically tailored to your needs as a staff new hire. As department HR practices may vary, please consult with your supervisor, HRA or department administrator for additional guidance. Human Resource Services (HRS) maintains this site, and can also provide individualized assistance.

Parking for Getting to Know UChicago Orientation
Access to the garage adjacent to the 6054 S. Drexel building (the Getting to Know UChicago Orientation building location) is restricted between the hours of 5:00 AM and 9:00 AM for individuals who do not have access cards. We encourage staff members attending orientation to use public transportation or plan to arrive early if they will be searching for street parking. Please beware of signs in order to ensure you are parking in a legal zone that is open to the public. Here are some suggestions for parking alternatives:
